Vervet monkeys grooming – Magical Photo Tours South Africa photography retreat & workshop
  • Our exclusive South Africa photography retreat brings together three magical elements in perfect harmony: extraordinary wildlife encounters in the most exclusive private reserves of the Greater Kruger National Park, personalized wildlife photography coaching by a talented local photographer and a Swiss tour leader (experienced graphic designer and passionate wildlife photographer), and rejuvenating spa experiences in a stunning luxury lodge. This women’s-only photo safari is a rare opportunity to elevate your photography skills in the African wildernesswhile connecting with an inspiring group of like-minded women. Experience a luxury safari for women, designed to spark creativity, relaxation, and unforgettable memories.

  • We explore two of the most exclusive private game reserves in the Greater Kruger area, both unfenced and directly connected to the legendary Kruger National Park. The dense bushveld of this region creates ideal conditions for wildlife photography, allowing you to capture the Big Five and countless other African species—from towering giraffes to tiny dung beetles—in their natural habitat. The reserves also offer incredible opportunities for bird photography, with many stunning species to observe and capture. Less crowded than the main park, these private reserves give us more time for the perfect shot and the chance to get closer to the animals, creating truly unique images for your wildlife photography portfolio.

  • Our expert team shares their extensive knowledge across multiple areas, including:

    • Achieving perfect exposure in the changing light of the African bush

    • Composition techniques that bring your wildlife photos to life

    • Tips and tricks for photo editing and post-processing

During your free time between game drives or at the spa lodge, you can review your safari photos and refine your editing skills at your own pace, guided by our experts. This personalized coaching ensures that you will significantly improve your photography skills and return home with images you will cherish for a lifetime.

  • Absolutely! Especially if you are a beginner, you will greatly benefit from our intensive, personalized guidance. The Greater Kruger ecosystem provides ideal conditions for learning, helping you develop a strong sense of light, composition, and the unique challenges of wildlife photography. Our expert team tailors their instructions to your individual skill level. You’ll learn the fundamentals of exposure in changing light, understand animal behavior for better shots, and receive immediate feedback on your images. Leisure time can be used for photo review and editing, according to your wishes, ensuring you gain experience in all aspects of this amazing hobby.

  • Of course, you’re welcome to capture your safari memories with just your smartphone. However, it’s important to keep in mind that phone cameras offer fewer manual settings compared to a professional camera. A dedicated camera provides more creative flexibility, which naturally requires more time to adjust settings and compose each shot.

Since this is a photography safari experience, we’ll set our pace to match the needs of guests using professional cameras. This ensures everyone has enough time to get beautiful, well-composed wildlife images while still making the journey enjoyable for those who prefer mobile photography.

  • The camera brand you choose truly doesn’t matter – all leading manufacturers today offer excellent models with plenty of creative potential.

Your choice of lenses will depend on your personal photography style and how much gear you’d like to carry and manage during your safari.

From our personal (purely subjective!) experience, here’s our recommended priority list:

    1. Telephoto lens, ideally 300–400mm (in private reserves where we often get remarkably close to animals), still it is manageable weight-wise.

    2. Wide-angle lens for capturing breathtaking African landscapes, dramatic skies, and storytelling shots

    3. Standard/normal lens

For all focal lengths, we prefer zoom lenses over prime lenses. While primes offer unbeatable sharpness, the speed and flexibility of zooms mean less time switching lenses and more time capturing magical wildlife moments.

  • The daily rhythm at the safari lodges is guided by the sun. During the summer months, the nights are short, so we rise early, setting out at first light around 5:00 or 5:30 a.m. A coffee break in the bush is, of course, part of the experience. Returning to the lodge between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., we enjoy a hearty brunch. Tailored for our ladies-only safari, we skip lunch and instead indulge in a lavish high tea before heading out for the afternoon game drive at 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. This schedule allows ample free time for a refreshing swim, photo editing, or a well-deserved siesta. Snacks are always available for a light bite between drives. Even during the late game drive, there’s a break for the legendary “sundowner”, a classic African safari experience. Back at the lodge, after a short refreshment, we gather for dinner, another highlight of the safari day. It’s a wonderful combination of luxury, relaxation, and indulgence, ensuring that every moment of your women’s photography safari in South Africa is unforgettable.

  • Our ladies-only wildlife photography safari in South Africa creates a warm atmosphere of trust and genuine connection. In this supportive women’s photography retreat, open conversations about personal experiences, mindfulness, and creative vision often take priority over purely technical photography discussions. The small group size allows for highly personalized guidance from both our Swiss tour guide and the local wildlife photographer, ensuring every participant can achieve her individual photography goals while drawing inspiration and energy from the female-focused safari experience.

  • This concern is completely understandable, and you are not alone. Our Swiss tour guide is an experienced solo traveler and knows South Africa exceptionally well. In addition to shorter photography tours, she has spent two extended stays in the country, gaining deep insight into the region’s unique characteristics and safety considerations. And very important: You’re never truly alone: you are part of an all-female group, supported by professional guidance around the clock. This ensures that from the very first moment, you feel safe, confident, and supported during your women’s photography safari in South Africa.

  • No need to worry – that’s exactly what our Swiss tour leader is here for! She speaks fluent English and ensures you won’t miss a single detail, whether it’s about perfect camera settings or fascinating insights into animal behavior. Instead of focusing on communication, you can fully immerse yourself in magical wildlife encounters and capture stunning safari photography moments.

  • All images* were taken by us – most of them by Jacqueline. And that’s exactly our point: what we can do, you can do too.

On our photo tours, we support you every step of the way – hands-on and practical. Whether it’s mastering the technical basics, refining your composition, or editing your shots afterwards, we’ll show you how to create authentic images that reflect your perspective and feeling for the moment.
