Photography in the hide: change of perspectives
Next Tour: April 30 to May 8, 2027
Hide photography · classic game drives · personally guided
Magical Photo Tours organizes exclusive, guided photography trips to South Africa for anyone looking to combine nature, safari, and photography. The focus is on immersive wildlife experiences in private nature reserves adjacent to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, professional guidance, photographic training, and luxurious safari lodges.
Hide Photography I
The Umgede Hide is a highlight of this journey – and what distinguishes it from a classic photo safari.
A hide is a permanent camouflage blind, built directly at eye level with the animals. You sit still, at ground level, by the water. The animals come to quench their thirst, and you enjoy a unique perspective on them.

You’ll be accompanied by the same professional wildlife photographer throughout the entire journey. With her exceptional eye for detail, she not only shares her deep expertise but also meets you exactly at your skill level, helping you grow as a photographer. At Magical Photo Tours, we place the highest value on personalized guidance and expert mentorship.
During your leisure time, you’re welcome to focus on photo editing and post-processing. With support from both your photographer and tour guide – an experienced graphic designer – you’ll learn how to bring out the very best in your safari images. Whether you’re preparing your photos for professional printing, your portfolio, or social media, this hands-on coaching ensures your pictures will truly stand out.
Hide Photography II

In addition to the Umgede Hide, Antares features a smaller hide situated in front of a bird bath. A multitude of small and large birds visit this bath, afterwards grooming themselves extensively in the light bushes directly behind it.
Unlike the Umgede Hide, this smaller blind accommodates only one photographer at a time. However, thanks to our small group size, you will have ample opportunity here to refine your bird photography skills.
Photography on Game Drives
Game drives, of course, remain equally exciting. Therefore, this classic form of safari is by no means neglected on this journey.
At Antares (the lodge with the hide > Locations), one game drive takes place daily. At Kambaku, following the classic routine, there are two drives: one at sunrise and one at sunset. This is fortunate, as we want to ensure we have sufficient chances to spot the famous white lions of Timbavati!
