Where the Wilderness Welcomes You at Eye Level
At Antares, we enjoy a very special highlight: the Umgede Photography Hide, a blind situated directly at the waterhole. Here, you experience elephants, birds, antelopes, and – with luck – predators coming to drink, all at eye level. Undisturbed. Truly close.
What makes Antares so special for photographers: The hide (like the entire lodge) is reserved exclusively for our groupfor the duration of the stay. There is no slot system for hide visits, no other guests, and no time pressure. You decide when to enter the hide and how long to stay. Whether it is the golden morning light, the midday heat, or the blue hour – every animal visit is accessible to you whenever it occurs.
Thanks to our small group size, you are guaranteed a front-row seat at all times.
Rooms with En-suite
Bathrooms The air-conditioned, practically furnished rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, are connected via a ground-level veranda.
Communal Areas
The stylish communal area offers generous space for relaxation. Large tables are available for image editing workshops (on request) and, of course, for shared meals. We are pampered with creative dishes prepared by a local chef.
Two viewing decks overlooking the waterhole are equipped with a large dining table and a lounge group respectively. A small pool provides refreshment.

Balule Nature Reserve
Generous Wilderness Without Borders
Balule Nature Reserve stretches across approximately 42,000 hectares of pristine Bushveld vegetation in the Limpopo province, bordering the Kruger National Park directly – without fences. What does this mean? Animals move freely between the areas, allowing you to experience the diversity of the Kruger National Park without its crowds of tourists. Elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, rhinos – the full spectrum of the Big Five and countless other species roam this territory.
The landscape alternates between Mopane forests, acacia bush, and riverlines along the Olifants River. This diversity creates a wide range of lighting situations and photographic compositions. For bird photography, Balule is particularly fruitful: over 300 bird species have been recorded here.
Kambaku Safari Lodge
Bushveld Atmosphere in the Heart of Timbavati
Kambaku is familial and warm – a lodge that does not try to mask the wilderness, but rather invites it in. The eight thatched suites blend into the Timbavati bush landscape as if they have always been there. In the evenings, you sit around the fire in the boma, with the African starry sky above you and the sounds of the South African bush all around.
The waterhole directly in front of the lodge regularly attracts thirsty animals. From a perfectly positioned bench in the shade of a tree, you can observe and photograph them.
Suites
The stylish, air-conditioned suites with airy en-suite bathrooms are fully integrated into nature. The four-poster beds with mosquito nets are perfect for dreaming of the day’s adventures. The lodge runs entirely on solar energy. In the evenings, numerous lanterns are lit, creating an atmosphere that invites pure indulgence.
